In 2013, Crest Nicholson was appointed as Development Manager for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO – the estates arm of the Ministry of Defence), to lead the planning and delivery of this new community. Crest Nicholson are responsible for delivering the area’s vision to at least 2026, alongside building half of the homes on the site.
Wokingham Borough Council (WBC) allocated the garrison and neighbouring land as a Strategic Development Location (SDL) within their adopted Core Strategy. In April 2015 WBC granted outline permission for the masterplan of the garrison land to the north of the SDL which provides for up to 2,000 new homes on the site, a new primary school and a secondary school. As well as a district centre including a food store, cafes, a community centre and healthcare facilities, along with the associated infrastructure and open space.
Crest Nicholson were delighted to receive planning approval in November 2015 from Wokingham Borough Council for the development of the first phase at Arborfield Green, Parcel 01 located off Biggs Lane.
In 2016, the REME garrison left for their new home at the former RAF Lyneham. This marked an important milestone for both the army and the redevelopment of the site as Crest Nicholson took on the management of the estate on behalf of their partner, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation.
