Arborfield Green celebrated the start of the festive period on Saturday 30th November as local families gathered in the Community Centre for a chance to meet Santa.
Crowds were treated to musical performances by Abi Powell, Dan Pryde and Shane Sura, along with a Christmas singalong lead by Soph from Sing for your Self which got the whole room singing.
Stallholders were selling gifts from baby baskets to Christmas cards and baubles, as representatives from local community groups chatted about their businesses. Church@the Green sold mince pies and mulled wine to get people into the Christmas spirit, while Santa met children in his sleigh and handed out chocolates.
The Arborfield Green Events Committee arranged the event, running a tombola to begin fundraising for future events and a defibrillator for the site. Sponsorship to fund the event was kindly offered by Crest Nicholson, Millgate Homes and Redrow, with organisational support from Wokingham Borough Council.
Sammie Bryans, Development Director for Crest Nicholson, commented:
“These types of community events are key to building our new community here in Arborfield Green. It was great to add some musical acts to our usual offering of food, drink and stallholders, and having Mayor Bill Sloane along to support the event was the icing on the (Christmas) cake!”
